Lonely Planet: Croatia more popular than ever Croatia continues to be the up and coming celebrity of European travel though, seeing visitor numbers up by 15% by plane and 9% by ship based on last year"s already bumper crop, according to Lonely Planet.
Writing about "hot" travelling trends this summer, the author of the Lonely Planet article published last week, Tom Hall, said that the big summer getaway has begun in earnest. "Dubrovnik Airport carried more passengers on 1 August than in the entire month of February, though with 15,000 people passing through it was a relative backwater compared to the big Spanish hubs," the article said. Hall also recalled a recent visit by Shawshank Redemption star Morgan Freeman who was among the stellar names in Dubrovnik for a meeting of Hollywood big-wigs.

Tourism minister reports increase in arrivals by plane, shipCroatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs has said that preliminary figures for July show that the number of tourists arriving in Croatia by plane and by ship has increased by 15 and 9 percent respectively in relation to July 2009. The minister made the statement at a meeting of ministry officials and representatives of the Croatian Tourist Board and workers in the public and private tourist sectors, held at the national park Krka on Sunday. The minister said that 90 percent of tourists in Croatia were foreign nationals, while the number of domestic tourists was decreasing, according to a statement from the Tourism Ministry.

PM Kosor confident Croatia will record good tourist results Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said at the inner session of her cabinet which convened in Lucko, outside Zagreb, on Saturday to discuss the ongoing tourist season, that she was confident Croatia would record good tourist results this season. Stressing that tourism was a very important branch for Croatia, Kosor said that Croatia's advantages as a tourist country were good roads and highways, as a total of 90 percent of tourists were arriving in the country individually by cars. Thanking the prime minister for attending today's session, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs proposed they meet once again this season somewhere at the coast. He said that in the first three weekends of July, a total of 450,000 more foreign tourist entered Croatia compared with the same period last years.

Minister says first two weeks in July encouraging for tourist season A higher number of tourist arrivals on the year in the first two weeks in July are encouraging for Croatia's tourist trade, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said on Monday, adding that Croatia should be aware that competing countries are doing all they can to attract as many tourists as possible. Thus, the competitiveness of Croatia's tourism will face the biggest test in the rest of July and in August, when two thirds of all annual arrivals and income in the tourist trade are made, the minister said at his meeting with the first Croatian deaf tourist guide Vanda Sagovac in Zagreb. Bajs also expressed satisfaction with an increasing number of cruise liners visiting Croatia.
