Tourist minister says arrivals, nights in September up y-o-y Croatian tourism saw a continuation of positive trends in September, with arrivals going up three and nights six per cent on the year, despite relatively poor weather, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said in Zabok on Sunday. Speaking to the press, he said 1.1 million tourists vacationed in Croatia in September, generating 6.6 million nights, while the January-September 2010 period saw 9.8 million arrivals and 59 million nights, up three and six per cent on the year, respectively. The Zadar, Sibenik-Knin and Split-Dalmatia coastal counties recorded the best results. Bajs pointed to a higher number of arrivals from Germany, Poland, Spain, Slovenia, Austria, and the Czech Republic, while arrivals from Italy continued to decline. He said Croatia was getting ready for 2011, announcing its participation at the World Travel Market in London early next month. 10.10.2010. | Page
Tourism minister expects positive results for first eight months Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs on Wednesday said he was confident figures for the first eight months of 2010 would be positive for the tourist trade, announcing that next week his ministry would publish data on arrivals and overnight stays for the first eight months. Bajs expects a five-percent rise in tourist arrivals and a three-percent rise in overnight stays. There are also good indicators for September and October, according to bookings, he said after a ceremony of signing agreements on grants which the tourism ministry gave to organisations and no-profit associations in the tourist sector. Today, the minister and representatives of 40 associations signed agreements on non-repayable grants, whose total amount is HRK 4 million, for preparations for the next season. 01.10.2010. | Page

Minister says off-season as planned, preparations under way for difficult 2011 The off-season in Croatia is proceeding according to expectations despite rainfalls and it could be very similar to last year's season, as could the entire season this year, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said in the Zumberak-Samoborsko Gorje Nature Park on Monday, on the occasion of marking the World Tourism Day. Since the year 2011 is expected to be very demanding and difficult, it is of the utmost importance to prepare well for it and to announce tourism programmes on time, he said. As for the ongoing off-season, Bajs said that organised groups were arriving, that contracts signed with travel agencies were yielding results and that this was this year's trump card of the tourism sector. According to forecasts by the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), in 2011 Europe could see a rise of up to two percent in arrivals, while the number of overnight stays and revenues could stagnate and remain at this year's level, the minister said. 27.09.2010. | Page
