Croatian tourist industry aims to remain competitive in 2011

Next year Croatia wants to position itself on the international tourist market as an environmentally friendly destination and as one of the leading tourist countries in the Mediterranean, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said at a meeting of the Tourism Council of the National Tourism Board (HTZ) on Friday. Bajs said that Croatia, as the future 28th member of the European Union, was among the first countries in Europe to have already adopted measures for tourism promotion for next year. The measures, designed in cooperation between the public and private tourism sectors, are contained in the Action Plan for 2011, which was adopted by the government at its session today. The measures were brought fully into accord with EU regulations relating to grants and competition.

HTZ director Niko Bulic said that public invitations for joint activities would be published in Croatian newspapers and on the websites of the HTZ and the Tourism Ministry on Saturday, and in British newspapers next week.



The world's largest tourism show, WTM, begins in London next week, and Bajs said that Croatia would take that opportunity to present its measures to the World Tourism Organisation, British tour operators and other interested partners.



The government next year also plans to liberalise the visa regime for China, Russia, India and Ukraine, and to abolish visas for some other markets during the summer season.



Bajs said that the amount of funds for each measure would be determined after elaboration of the 2011 budget. (Hina)
