Trieste Connects Croatian Tourist Ports with Venice and Greece

This tourist season, Trieste will become the home port for large cruisers in the Adriatic Sea. Those cruisers will, after visiting Trieste, continue their journeys towards the Aegis, by making stops along their way not only at Dubrovnik, Pula, Zadar and Šibenik but also at Rovinj and Kotor.

According to the Trieste newspaper 'Maritime Journal', from Saturday, the Trieste city administration reached an agreement with the company Costa Crociera from Genoa turning Trieste into the home port for cruises on their journey down the eastern Adriatic Coast towards Greek ports.

'The Adriatic Route' will secure during this year's tourist season, for Trieste, the arrival of 56 000 tourists and the berthing of large cruisers from British, American and German companies, like the Queen Elizabeth, the Emerald, Cristal Cruises, Silver Sea and Kreuzfahrten.

The city has already produced brochures which will be presented for the first time to tourist operators and the largest shipping companies, at the Sea Trade Fair 2006 in Miami (USA).

'The Adriatic navigation route and the cooperation with Croatian wharves are the most important steps in Trieste's attempt to return to the sea.' said Maurizio Bucci member of the town council.

This week, the Port Authorities of Pula, Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Dubrovnik, Rovinj and Kotor organized their first operative meeting with the Trieste city council.
