Croatia is ready for and optimistic about the summer tourist season, aware that it will depend to a large extent on the epidemiological situation, Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac told Slovenia's STA news agency on Saturday.

We are confident the epidemiological situation will improve in Croatia and our tourist markets, she said, adding that this year again the most successful will be those offering high quality service which guarantees safety.

Brnjac said Croatia was working hard to ensure safety and health conditions for tourists.

She said that last year Slovenians generated 53.9% of their 2019 arrivals and 63% of overnights in Croatia, voicing confidence that more would visit this year as a result of "a favourable epidemiological situation in both countries, a larger number of vaccinated citizens and responsible behaviour."

Brnjac said bilateral contacts were under way with tourist markets, including Slovenia, to find ways to facilitate travel.

She said Croatia would start vaccinating its tourism workers in May, and that testing locations would be set up in resorts so that tourists could get tested upon arriving in Croatia and before returning home.
