Minister Glavina condemns attack on FC Osijek scout

Tourism and Sports Minister Tonči Glavina on Thursday condemned an attack on FC Osijek's chief scout, British national Jamie Freeman, who joined the club a few months ago as an associate of the club's sports director, José Boto, whose car has recently been shot at.

"I condemn any form of violence. We fully support every sports worker and every sports club. The investigation will reveal the specifics of this incident," Glavina stated.

He added that he is confident the police will quickly do their part of the job, expressing support for the attacked sports worker.

"We have a new sports management team, and it is customary for the team to undergo changes when someone takes over a sports organisation. Whether this is related to the current events will be shown by the investigation," he added, noting that he has no information on the progress of the investigation into the attack on FC Osijek sports director José Boto.

Regarding the incident in which FC Osijek sports worker Jamie Freeman was attacked and sustained light injuries, the club issued a statement on Thursday expressing their shock over the incident. They also expect the attacker to be promptly identified.

The police reported that around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, two unknown individuals attacked a 25-year-old foreign national, a sports worker for the Osijek football club.

The injured foreign national received medical assistance at the Osijek Clinical Hospital, where he was found to have sustained minor injuries.

Without revealing the identity of their employee, FC Osijek announced on its official website that the club is cooperating with the relevant authorities and expects the attacker to be promptly identified.

This is the second incident involving FC Osijek employees. On 28 May, in downtown Osijek, the car used by the club's sports director, Portuguese national José Boto, was shot at multiple times with a firearm.

The police are investigating both incidents.
