Headquarters for tourist season security measures set up in Zadar
The centre for implementation of security measures during the peak of the tourist season in Croatia's coastal and island destinations was officially opened in Zadar on Saturday by Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic who said that the Zadar headquarters and other relevant services and institutions would collect information about all that was going on in Croatia's Adriatic region in summer so as to beef up security in this way, too.
"We can get an insight into a state of affairs on roads, in cities and towns and on the sea. All data will be sent to this centre, and decisions on deployment and the use of certain staff and forces will be made here. This centre is in Zadar and this is a national institution and an institution of the police directorate. They will act in cooperation with their partners from the National Protection and Rescue Directorate, the Defence Ministry and emergency services," the minister said.He underscores that the police forces are supposed to be mobile and flexible.
As regards the tourist season, Bozinovic noted that one of the factors that contribute to the tourism sector in Croatia is the fact that the country is recognised as a safe destination owing the work of all relevant services around the clock that care for the safety and security of local people and guests.
Croatia boasts of a permanent increase in the tourist trade, and one of the reasons for establishing the Zadar headquarters is an increase in the number of tourists.
The newly-established centre is in touch with other information systems in Croatia plus police forces in 18 countries that have joined in the implementation of the action aimed at strengthening the safety and security of the tourist season.
The Zadar headquarters for security measures during tourist season will operate until 15 September.
Recently, the headquarters for fire-fighting activities in summer has been opened at Divulje near Split.
