Fewer toursits older than 55 visiting Croatia this year
The corona crisis impacts the travel industry, with fewer and fewer "seniors" travelling this season, as evident in data of eVisitor app showing that in the first six months of the year the biggest decrease has occurred in the number of tourists older than 55 visiting Croatia.
Now the share of elderly tourists is 10 percentage points lower on the year and accounts for 21%, that is for 352,600 arrivals, in Croatia in the first six months of this year, when the total number of arrivals stood at 1.6 million.Even though it is still too early to say whether that trend will continue until the end of the year, such scenarios can be expected considering travel restrictions and the epidemiological situation according to which the elderly are among the most vulnerable category for the coronavirus, hence they are travelling less.
In the past, people in the age cohort above 55 usually travelled to Croatia with families, individually or often in organised tour groups visiting several countries in the region which, due to the coronavirus is virtually absent entirely this year, particular for tourists from far Asian and American markets.
The Croatian National Tourism Board says that therefore it is almost impossible to make comparisons between the current trends and the previous seasons.
