Croatian tourism minister meets Czech and Polish ambassadors

Croatian Tourism Minister Veljko Ostojic on Tuesday held separate meetings with the ambassadors of the Czech Republic and Poland, Karel Kuehnl and Wieslaw Tarka respectively, the Tourism Ministry said in a statement. The talks with the Czech ambassador focused on closer cooperation between the two countries, particularly in promotional activities on the Czech market. Kuehnl said that tourism was the strongest bond between Croatia and the Czech Republic, and stressed the importance of developing continental tourism in Croatia. He commended successful cooperation in ensuring the security of Czech tourists in Croatia by bringing Czech police officers to the Adriatic coast during the summer months. The Polish ambassador said that Polish tourists were very committed to Croatia and felt safe there. He said that although a majority of Polish tourists travelled to Croatia by car, attention should also be paid to improving flight services.Also discussed was the possibility of Czech and Polish tourism workers working in Croatia, which Ostojic said would be completely resolved after Croatia joined the EU.

Ostojic said that Croatia would continue improving tourist services in its underdeveloped areas and that it expected a great boost in that regard from the country's forthcoming accession to the European Union. He said that efforts were being made to attract tourists in the low season as well.

The Polish ambassador said that Polish tourists were very committed to Croatia and felt safe there. He said that although a majority of Polish tourists travelled to Croatia by car, attention should also be paid to improving flight services.

Ostojic said that the good cooperation with the two countries was confirmed every year, as shown by a continued rise in the number of tourists from the Czech Republic and Poland, adding that his ministry would work on encouraging Croatian tourists to visit the two countries as well.

The minister informed the ambassadors about investment possibilities in the Croatian tourist industry, stressing that a catalogue of investment projects was under preparation. He said that the government planned to privatise the remaining 13 tourist companies in majority state ownership and to convert former military facilities for tourism purposes.

Also discussed was the possibility of Czech and Polish tourism workers working in Croatia, which Ostojic said would be completely resolved after Croatia joined the EU. (Hina)
