Croatian, Slovenian presidents mark beginning of construction of hotel in Croatian spa resort

The presidents of Croatia and Slovenia, Ivo Josipovic and Danilo Tuerk, on Tuesday laid a foundation stone and symbolically marked the beginning of the construction works on a new hotel in the northern Croatian Terme Tuhelj Spa, an investment worth EUR 12 million. Terme Tuhelj, owned by Terme Olimia from Podcetrtek, Slovenia, is financing the building of the new hotel by a loan and By its own funds.

The new four star hotel will have 130 rooms and a large congress hall which will be able to accommodate up to 450 people. The new hotel will hire at least 30 new workers.

"This investment is the best proof of excellent relations between Croatia and Slovenia and the best indicator of how the cross-border cooperation will look tomorrow," Josipovic said.

"Croatia's admission to the European Union will be a new incentive to cross-border cooperation, regional cooperation. I am confident that this is only one of the first major joint Croatian-Slovenian investments," Josipovic said.

Slovenian President Tuerk said Slovenia was impatiently awaiting Croatia's EU entry. "As early as today, we must launch projects which will increase cohesion of this region on both sides of the border," Tuerk said.

The new hotel is one of major investments by the private sector in Croatia's tourism this year. The Meteor Grupa Company from the northern Croatian city of Varazdin was selected at a public tender to carry out the construction of the facility. (Hina)
