Croatian minister, British ambassador talk tourism

Croatian Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac held talks on the tourist season with British Ambassador Andrew Dalgliesh on Thursday, including facilitating travel, with the message that Croatia will receive British guests as soon as the epidemiological situation allows.

Brnjac informed Dalgliesh that the government is regularly coordinating conditions for crossing the border based on the epidemiological situation in Croatia and its neighbours, the ministry said in a press release.

She also presented the "Safe stay in Croatia" project which, Dalgliesh said, offers additional safety standards in tourism.

He spoke of the epidemiological measures in force in the UK and the conditions under which its citizens are allowed to return from third countries, voicing hope that the UK will soon open for tourist travel.

The two officials said the pandemic had a negative effect on the Croatian-UK tourist turnover last year because Croatia is an air destination for UK tourists, and that it was essential to ensure conditions so that the number of British tourists in Croatia could return to the level before the pandemic as soon as possible.

The ministry said a high vaccination rate and restored trust in air travel would play an important part in that, adding that clear and predictable rules for the entry of UK tourists would be defined.

In the UK, Croatia continues to be perceived as a high value destination and its tour operators and airlines remain highly interested in flying to Croatian destinations, the ministry said.

It recalled that last November Croatia made the top three world destinations in the Best Country Award 2020, which is given by The Times & The Sunday Times newspapers.
