Austrian, German, Slovenian, Serbian police deployed in Istria
Two police officers from Austria and Germany each and one from Slovenia and Serbia each will stay in Istria County until September 5 as part of the Croatian Interior Ministry's project "Safe tourist season", which began in 2006, reporters were told at the Istria County Police Department on Monday.
The Austrian, German and Slovenian officers will work together with Croatian police, wearing their uniforms but no weapon, except the Austrians.
"The task of the foreign police officers is to help our police in their daily job, especially to better communicate and cooperate with tourists, prevent crimes and improve traffic safety," department chief Mladen Blaskovic said, adding the officers would be deployed in Pula and Porec.
The Serbian crime police officer will take part in crime prevention, notably organised international crime such as trafficking in people, slavery and prostitution.
"Croatia is known as a safe country, so it is very important that this tourist season pass without incidents," said Blaskovic. (Hina)
