Arrivals, nights in Croatian campsites rising for 12 yrs running
Croatian camps recorded 1.9 million tourist arrivals in the first eight months of the year, up one per cent on the year, and 12.7 million nights, the same as at the same time last year, the Fourth Croatian Camping Congress heard in Sibenik on Thursday.
Campsites in Croatia have seen a rise in both arrivals and nights for 12 years running and they account for 27 per cent of Croatia's tourism figures, said Josipa Cvelic Bonifacic, chair of the Croatian Camping Union Executive Committee.
Croatia has 235 campsites and 284 mini-campsites which can accommodate a total of 232,080 people in one day, she said.
The highest increase in camp nights this year was recorded in the southern coastal region of Dalmatia.
Cvelic Bonifacic said a poll conducted among 1,000 guests was very positive for Croatian camps.
The average campsite guest is 47 years old, 62 per cent have college education, 75 per cent have a monthly income of over 1,500 euros, and a family vacationing in a Croatian camp spends an average 2,424 euros.
The director of the Croatian Tourism Board Main Office, Niko Bulic, said HRK 8.6 million was spent on camping promotion this year alone, while HRK 10 million would be spent for that purpose next year. (Hina)
