Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) to establish Youth Council
The EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) will establish a Youth Council through which young generations would participate in decision making relating to the sea, environment, transport and social issues.
The EUSAIR has issued a call on its website inviting interested persons aged 18-29 to apply. The call for applications is open until 27 May.The EUSAIR member states are: Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, San Marino, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania. These countries lie on the shores of the Adriatic and Iionian seas or in their hinterland. They cooperate on blue growth, regional connectivity, environmental protection, sustainable tourism and social issues.
The EUSAIR cooperation framework was established in 2014, with the European Commission having an advisory role in it. It aims to ensure stability on the European Union's borders and prepare candidate countries for EU membership.
The EUSAIR seeks to include young people to hear their opinions and ideas and to include them in future policies that would better suit the needs and desires of young generations. "We will also look after gender equality, and we would like to have young people from rural areas as well," the EUSAIR told Hina.
The first meeting of the EUSAIR Youth Council is expected to be held in September or October. The current one-year EUSAIR presidency is held by Croatia, which will hand it over to Greece at a ministerial forum in the central Adriatic city of Šibenik on Wednesday.
