EU-China Tourism Year kicks off in VeniceThe EU-China Tourism Year 2018, aimed at strengthening cooperation between China and the EU in the field of tourism, was officially inaugurated on Friday in Venice with numerous officials from EU countries, the European Commission and China in attendance, including Croatia's Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli who said that Croatia expected more tourists from China this year. Croatia's Tourism Ministry on Friday reported that as a member of the EU, Croatia will be actively involved in tourism activities and cooperation between the EU and China and that this year new opportunities are opening up for investment and growth in tourism as well as for mutual presentation of cultures and values. 19.01.2018. | News

eVisitor system wins UNWTO prize for tourism innovation and technologyThe Croatian eVisitor system, which registers visitor arrivals and departures, has won the third prize of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) in the category of tourism innovation and technology, and the award was presented to Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) director Kristjan Stanicic at a ceremony held in Madrid on Wednesday. This week Madrid is hosting Spain's most important international tourism fair, FITUR, in which Croatia is traditionally presenting its tourism industry. Croatia reports record tourism figures for 2017Last year 18.5 million tourists visited Croatia and generated 102 million overnight stays, which are increases of 13 percent and 12 percent respectively compared with 2016, and revenues are expected to exceed those from the previous year, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli told a press conference in Zagreb on Monday. "We expect revenues for 2017, from both domestic and foreign tourists, to reach about 11 billion kuna. We are also pleased that the Fitch ratings agency has noted the excellent results of the tourist season, along with the stability of the economy, as one of the reasons for increasing Croatia's rating after many years," Cappelli said. 15.01.2018. | News

Croatia successful at Vienna tourism fairCroatia had a successful presentation at Austria's biggest tourism fair Ferienmesse in Vienna on January 11-14, the director of the Croatian Tourist Board's office for Austria and Switzerland, Ranko Vlatkovic, told Hina on Sunday. Croatia was one of the 850 exhibitors from 80 countries that attended the most visited tourism fair in Austria. Croatia, Italy and Spain are popular this year, said Helga Freund of the Vienna tourist office. 15.01.2018. | News

TripAdvisor, Airbnb include Rovinj, Zagreb among trending destinations for 2018The travel website TripAdvisor and the accommodation booking website Airbnb have included two Croatian cities - Rovinj and Zagreb - on their lists of trending destinations for 2018, predicting higher tourist demand and better results than last year. Rovinj was included on TripAdvisor's list of the top 10 destinations on the rise, ranking 8th. The list is topped by Ishigaki, Japan, ahead of: Kapaa, Hawaii; Nairobi, Kenya; Halifax, Nova Scotia; Gdansk, Poland; San Jose, Costa Rica; Riga, Latvia; Rovinj, Croatia; Nerja, Spain; and Casablanca, Morocco. 14.01.2018. | News

Fitch upgrades Croatia's credit rating to 'BB+' with stable outlookThe Fitch agency reported on Friday that Croatia's credit rating had been upgraded from 'BB' to BB+', with outlooks being stable on the back of the excellent tourism season and improved public finances, and this has been the first upgrade in the country's credit rating since 2004. Explaining key rating drivers, the agency says that "strengthening tourism revenues have underpinned a sustained improvement in Croatia's external position." 12.01.2018. | News

​Nov 2017 sees 9% more tourists y-o-yCroatia's commercial accommodation facilities reported 308,000 tourists in November 2017, up 9.1% on the year, and they generated 663,000 nights, a rise of 9%, the national statistical office said on Monday. Foreign tourists accounted for 195,000 arrivals, up 11.2% from November 2016, generating 437,600 nights, up 11.7%.
