The Tourist Board Council of the Split – Dalmatian County accepted at today's meeting the program on tourist promotion for the year 2006 defining investments for tourist promotion in the amount of HRK 5.3 million.

Central Dalmatia is expecting for next year a 3% increase in tourist traffic as compared to this year.

Mili Razović, the president of the County Tourist Board Office, explained that this year's tourist results were outstanding. During the first nine months the Split – Dalmatian county registered a 16% increase in night stays, achieving results clearly above the country's average.

Foreign tourists realized 7.2 million night stays, and detailed data shows that 18% arrived from the Czech Republic, 13% from Germany followed by Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.

Razović also pointed out the remarkable increase of guests coming from France (plus by 71% over 2004), Scandinavian countries (plus by 85% over 2004) and Britain (plus by 26% over 2004).

A survey amongst tourists showed that this county was being mostly chosen as a destination for the so-called relaxation tourism, guests are satisfied with the offered hospitality but not with the night life, amount of information and transport.

At the Council's meeting it was emphasized that in 2006 the Split - Dalmatian County would get its Master plan for tourism development and the public discussion regarding this important document has already started on www.dalmatia.hr.  (Hina)
