Tourism minister visits Varaždin
Minister of Tourism and Sports Tonči Glavina held a meeting in Varaždin on Monday with Varaždin County Prefect Anđelko Stričak, mayors and the heads of the county's tourist boards, to present them with the new legal framework for managing the development of tourism in destinations.
Prefect Stričak underlined that in the last three years, tourist figures about the number of arrivals and overnight stays in Varaždin County and its surroundings have grown between 200 and 250 percent."Thanks to funding from the Ministry of Tourism, we are carrying out two significant investments - the interior decoration of the Minerva Hotel, for which we secured €17.1 million, and the revitalisation of the Opeka Arboretum, for which we received a grant of €6.6 million," Stričak said.
He added that in the coming months a procedure to declare Ivančica, Strahinčica, Ravna Gora, and Maceljsko Gorje as nature parks would be launched along with several other projects.
"We expect the support of the minister and the government so that in the coming years we will achieve this and then be the top continental tourist destination," he concluded.
Špancirfest visited by more than 100,000 people in the first three days
The meeting was also attended by Varaždin Mayor Neven Bosilj, who revealed that more than 100,000 people have visited the Špancirfest street festival in the city in the first three days.
"If this continues, we will surpass last year's record of 330,000 visitors," said Bosilj.
