Tourism minister on flat tax for rental income

Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac said at the 35th Congress of Hospitality and Tourism Workers in Tuheljske Toplice on Monday that the amount of lump-sum tax on rental income depends on local government units, which decide whether to raise it or not.

After the announcement by several cities, including Zagreb and Split, that they will increase the flat tax on rental income to a maximum amount of €199, journalists asked the minister to say what criteria were used to set the maximum of €199 for the flat rate.

"These were the proposals by the local government units, it is up to them whether they will raise them or not, they can leave everything as it was before, that is what each city decides for itself. That is why we are passing the new Tourism Act  based on exact facts. Decisions are made on the basis of specific figures and data that will affect the tourism sector," Brnjac said and added that she is glad that the entire tourism sector supports the new Tourism Act and the direction of Croatian tourism towards sustainability.

She also said that the issue of the tax-free tip had been resolved and that it would amount to €3,360 from 1 January 2024.
