Slovenia: Croatia still safe destination but caution required
Depite the spike in new coronavirus infections over the past few days, Croatia is still on the list of safe countries, however, caution is required, Slovenian epidemiologists and government officials said on Friday.
Eva Grilc from Slovenia's Public Health Institute underlined that Slovenia's epidemiologists were in constant contact with their Croatian colleagues and that the majority of new cases in Croatia are not mutually connected and they are not located in tourist destinations along the coast where Slovenians usually spend their vacations."Croatia is still on the map of safe countries. Its 14-day cumulative incidence rate of the disease is 5.7 to 100,000 residents," Grilc said.
Asked whether Croatia could be taken off the list of safe countries for Slovenians due to the spike in COVID-19 cases over the past few days, Interior Minister Ales Hojs told Slovenia's broadcaster that that would depend on developments in Croatia and other Balkan countries.
The number of new cases in Slovenia, too, has increased over the past week.
In the last 24 hours tests identified 11 new cases. These were mostly imported from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia. (Hina/FaH)
