Rovinj Croatia's best coastal resort

The northern Adriatic town of Rovinj is the best big coastal destination in Croatia, Varazdin is the best destination in the mainland, and tennis player Marin Cilic has been awarded for the international promotion of Croatia, it was said at an award-giving ceremony held at the end of a national tourism conference in Opatija on Friday. The awards are presented traditionally at the end of the tourist season and after an evaluation at the Croatian Tourism Days conference by the Croatian Tourism Board and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, which, together with the Tourism Ministry, organise the conference.

The awards are presented traditionally at the end of the tourist season and after an evaluation at the Croatian Tourism Days conference by the Croatian Tourism Board and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce, which, together with the Tourism Ministry, organise the conference.

The tourist resort Zaton has won awards for the best beach and camp site, the Monte Mulin Hotel in Rovinj is the best hotel in the country, the Punat Marina is the best big marina, and the Olive Island Marina in Sutomiscica is the best small marina.

Villa Magdalena in Krapinske Toplice has won an award as the best small hotel in inland Croatia, the Pucic Palace Hotel in Dubrovnik is the best small hotel on the coast, and the Excelsior Hotel in Dubrovnik has been recognised for its long-standing quality.

The best rural beach is Srebrena on the island of Vis and the best urban beach is Suncana Uvala - Veli Zal in Mali Losinj. The Zaton Tourist Resort beach is the best resort beach.

Awards were also presented to individual workers in the tourism industry.

Presenting the award to Rovinj town officials, Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said that 10-15 years ago the importance of tourism had not been taken seriously, while nowadays it was obvious that Croatia depended on tourism which, he said, offered major development opportunities.

Speaking to more than 1,500 tourism workers and their guests attending the Opatija conference, Milanovic said that in tourism, as in some other fields, "we need to respect ourselves more."

Attending the award-giving ceremony along with PM Milanovic and Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin were nine other government ministers, some of whom took part in a traditional meeting of government officials and tourism workers earlier in the day.
