PM says number of tourists on 10 Aug exceeds total number of arrivals in 2020
A total of 7.77 million tourists have vacationed in Croatia between the beginning of 2021 and 10 August, which is more than the total number of visitors in 2020, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said at a meeting with representatives of the tourism sector in Opatija on Tuesday.
"This season's figures testify to our great efforts that will make the season better than expected," Plenković said.Attending the meeting in Opatija were a number of government ministers, tourism sector officials, heads of coastal counties and representatives of a number of tourism companies.
The PM said that the meeting would focus on what had been done so far and what could be done to make the tourist season last longer and be as good as possible, so that the results could reach 70% of the results from the record year 2019.
He recalled that tourism accounted for up to 20% of GDP and that in 2019 a record high 20 million tourists vacationed in Croatia, making 108 million overnight stays, while tourism revenue totalled €12 billion.
Plenković thanked all stakeholders for efforts to prepare for the tourist season and attract as many guests as possible, noting that without epidemiological restrictions, responsible behaviour and vaccination, the overall destination image would not have been complete.
He once again called on citizens to get vaccinated.
