Prime Minister Andrej Plenković had a meeting on Friday with representatives of the Turkish Dogus Group on activities and investment plans of that group in Croatia and the need for further investments in new tourist products based on sustainable development, the government said.

Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac also attended the meeting, while the Dogus Group was represented by President Ferit Sahenk, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors Hüsnü Akhan and SEE Regional Director Burak Baykan.

Stressing that the Dogus Group had been one of biggest investors in Croatia in the past 10 years, especially in the tourism sector, the government's press release added that the group's representatives informed the prime minister about plans for continued investments in Croatia in the tourism and construction sectors.

The prime minister welcomed the Dogus Group's activities, underscoring the importance of the tourism sector for Croatia since it had achieved results above expectations in 2020 despite the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Also, the meeting underscored the need for further investments in new tourist products to encourage the recovery of this industry in the post-COVID period, which should be based on sustainable development, the government's press release said.

The Dogus Group has been present in Croatia for more than 10 years. Its investments began with the acquisition of the D-Marin Mandalina marina in Šibenik, which was followed by the acquisitions of D-Marin Dalmacija in Sukošan and D-Marin Borik in Zadar.

It opened the D-Resort Šibenik hotel in the Mandalin marina in 2015, which was its first greenfield investment in Croatia, worth €26 million. In Croatia, the Dogus Group also owns a boutique hotel, Villa Dubrovnik, and the Maraska hotel in Zadar.

Over the past ten years the group has invested a total of €270 million in Croatia and employed about 350 workers, mostly local people. In the meantime, it sold the D-Marin brand at the beginning of 2020, that is, its three marinas, to the CVC Capital Partners investment fund from Luxembourg. (Hina)
