Plenković calls for being moderate in determining services' prices

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Tuesday called for moderation in determining the prices of services, underscoring that higher prices could again spur higher inflation, as was the case last August.

Commenting on the first estimates of the annual inflation rate in June, of 2.4%, after May's 3.3%, which is the lowest inflation rate since June 2021, with Croatia experiencing a 19-month streak of falling inflation, except for a short break in August 2023, when it rose to 7.8% after 7.3% in July 2023, Plenković said all that confirmed that the government's anti-inflation measures were successful.

"Our policy with price caps for energy products and 30 basic items and the measures we have taken in recent years have led to a turnaround in the negative trend," the premier said after he attended a ceremony on the occasion of Croatian Chamber of Crafts and Trades (HOK) Day.

We want this trend of decreasing inflation to continue, he said, recalling that Croatia registered one of the highest economic growths in the European Union in the first quarter of 2024.
