Croatia's Tourism Ministry will undertake appropriate measures and seek solutions to alleviate the impact of the coronavirus outbreak on the local tourist trade, Minister Gari Cappelli said after meeting with representatives from the tourism industry regarding the developments surrounding the COVID-19 situation.

Minister Cappelli and his associates met with representatives from the hotel industry, travel agencies, small family hotels, the Croatian Chamber of Crafts and the Tourism Department of the Croatian Chamber of Commerce to exchange information and to discuss the situation with regard to coronavirus and its impact on the tourism sector in Croatia, the ministry said in a press release.

The representatives of the tourism sector informed of the situation in that sector while the ministry provided them with relevant information on procedures within its remit and at the level of state institutions.

It was concluded during the meeting that the most important thing in this situation is to coordinate activities between the public and private sectors with the aim of timely and precise transfer of information. It was agreed that additional meetings would be convened if necessary, the press release said.

"It was also concluded that the situation in the tourism sector, accompanied with measures and caution and the current stagnation that is normal and not concerning in these circumstances, is optimistic and that a high level of trust exists on both sides," the ministry underscored.

The press release reads that the crisis management team set up by the national civil protection authority to tackle the issue of the novel virus has been commended at the European level as a good example of organisation and action and that this model will be adopted by other countries. (Hina)
