Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac said on Sunday that she was extremely satisfied with the course of this year's tourist season and that indicators of turnover in the tourist trade were at the level of the pre-pandemic 2019 which was a record-breaking year for that sector.

"The results in this pre-season make us particularly happy," the minister said in the Istrian town of Barban where she attended the 48th edition of the lancing tournament called "Prstenac Race".

Over 14.6 million arrivals and 77 million overnight stays have been registered so far this year.

When it comes to the interior of Croatia, the tourist sector has 8% better results than in 2019, according to the minister's statement.

She also admitted that climate change would have adverse effects on a tourism industry which relies on only a few months in a year.

"Therefore it is necessary to work on making the tourist season longer," she explained.
