At the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) held in October, the director of the Zagreb Tourist Board (TZGZ), Martina Bienenfeld, was elected a member of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics (WCTE) for the 2023-2027 period.

This year, the WCTE celebrates 20 years since its establishment as an independent and impartial body under the auspices of the UNWTO, responsible for promoting and disseminating the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and evaluating and monitoring the implementation of principles from that code.

"It is great honour for me to be elected as a member of the WCTE and I look forward to cooperation in creating a better future for tourism, which significantly impacts people, cultures and the environment. Therefore, the role of the Committee in ensuring the development of tourism in a sustainable and ethical way is extremely important, and I will also work to even better connect Croatia and Zagreb with the UNWTO," Bienenfeld said.

For the election of WCTE members, 24 candidates were shortlisted, and four of them were elected for the 2023-2027 mandate. The Committee is composed of a president and eight members and three alternate members, and they are elected in their personal capacity, not as government officials or representatives of their countries. As an independent body of the UNWTO General Assembly, the Committee regularly reports directly to the Assembly.
