In 2017 Opatija records best tourism results since 1991

A total of 403,373 tourists visited the northern Adriatic resort of Opatija in 2017, generating 1.12 million nights, which was a 2% increase in arrivals and a 5% increase in nights in comparison with 2016 and the best results achieved since Croatia gained independence in 1991, the town's tourist board has said.

July and August were the most successful months, accounting for 37.7% of all nights. The most numerous tourists were Austrians, followed by Germans and Croats.

Seventy-six percent of the nights were generated in hotels and private accommodation. The latter, with 281,083 nights, recorded an annual increase of 28%.

In December alone, 16,860 tourists stayed in Opatija, generating 45,501 nights, up 4% and 5% respectively year on year.
