On September 5 and 12, buses and trains will leave Zagreb for the eastern town of Ilok, in Vukovar-Srijem County, taking visitors to the 43rd Ilok Grape Harvest.

The organisers of the event, local tourism officials, told a news conference in Zagreb earlier this week that this was the third consecutive year visitors were taken to Ilok as part of a campaign promoting inland tourism.

They said that last year's turnout was good and expected visitors to come in large numbers this year as well.

On September 5, buses will leave Zagreb for Ilok from the Central Bus Station in the early morning hours and they will return to Zagreb in the evening.

On September 12, visitors will travel to Ilok and return to Zagreb by train.

This year's Ilok Grape Harvest lasts from August 28 to September 5.

This cultural, entertainment and tourist event, which has been held since 1962, goes back to an old local custom when people gathered before the start of the harvest to guard vineyards and celebrate bumper crops. (Hina)
