The Croatian National Tourist Board. (HTZ) was presented with a special award for the best and most creative approach in presenting tourist services to travel agents at the New York Travel & Adventure Show, where Croatia is among the favorite European destinations, the HTZ announced on Sunday.

The Croatian exhibition area is one of the busiest at the fair, the HTZ said, and numerous agencies, hotel companies and 11 Croatian destinations, mostly from Dalmatia, Lika and Gorski Kotar, are presenting.

The award was presented by the director of the fair, John V. Golicz, to the director of the HTZ Representative Office in New York, Leila Krešić Jurić, in the presence of the Croatian ambassador to the USA, Pjer Šimunović.

"Our country is known on the American market for its stunning landscapes, rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality, this is recognised by numerous agents, as well as the audience itself, so we can conclude that Croatia is among the favorite European destinations of Americans", said Krešić Jurić.

The fair in New York is one of the world's renowned tourist events, said Krešić Jurić, as part of which Croatia has the opportunity to promote itself as a safe, accessible and year-round destination and highlight a wide range of domestic tourist products.

This year's fair, which takes place on January 27 and 28, has more than 1,500 accredited agents, 400 media representatives and 30 percent more tickets sold compared to the previous year.

"For us, the American market is the most important overseas market, from which we generate the largest tourist traffic, and we are very proud of all the results achieved so far. Last year, for the first time, we exceeded 700,000 arrivals of Americans, who achieved over 2 million overnight stays, and this year we expect a continuation positive trend and growth in turnover", said HTZ director Kristjan Staničić.
