Gov't increases funds for medical, wellness tourism by €60m

The government on Wednesday gave its consent for a €60 million increase in budget funds for projects contracted under a call for applications for grants for the regional diversification and specialisation of the tourism sector, awarded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The public call for applications for grants was conducted in 2023.

Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac said the project proposals within the public call referred to investments in visitor and active tourism infrastructure and development of medical and wellness tourism.

She noted that the promotion of health tourism was part of the national development strategy and one of the key segments of the Sustainable Tourism Development Strategy for the period until 2030, adding that it would reduce the seasonal character of Croatia's tourism and add value to it.

The increase in grants was secured from the 2024 budget and budget projections for 2025 and 2026, with €20 million to be made available each year.
