First tourist guide to underwater cultural heritage of Split-Dalmatia County launched

A tourist guide to the underwater cultural heritage of Split-Dalmatia County, the first of its kind in Croatia, was launched on Wednesday.

The 54-page booklet, printed in 150 copies and issued in Croatian and English, was presented by County Prefect Blazenko Boban. It includes photographs of the 28 most exemplary sites that have been explored, out of 200 in the area stretching from Split to the islands of Brac, Solta, Hvar, Vis and Palagruza.

The purpose of the guide is to promote underwater archaeological sites and archaeological, cultural and scuba-diving tourism. It provides information on sites with amphorae, sarcophaguses and anchors, remnants of ancient architecture, shipwreck sites, historical naval battle sites and maps.

Forty-five percent of all overnight stays by boating tourists in Croatia are generated in Split-Dalmatia County, and scuba-diving tourism is very popular here, said the head of the County Tourism Board, Josko Stella.
