Dozens of foreign police officers assisting Croatian colleagues during summer season

As part of the project called "A Safe Tourist Season", 16 foreign police officers were introduced in Split and an additional 17 were introduced in Rovinj on Tuesday, and they will assist local law enforcement authorities in Split-Dalmatia and Istria Counties during the ongoing tourist season. Split-Dalmatia County has received police officers from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and soon three more from Italy and France will join them, bringing their number in this county to 19.

Split Police Department director, Slobodan Marendic, said today, that law enforcement authorities would also intensify their cooperation with tax and customs officials in the coming days and over the weekend when the Ultra Festival will take place in the biggest Croatian Adriatic city.

The 17 police officers from seven countries deployed to Istria will remain their until 1 September. These officers are coming from Austria (4), Poland (3), Italy (3), Serbia (2), Germany (2), Hungary (2) and Slovenia (1).

All of them, except the two Serb policemen, will work in Croatia wearing their original uniforms, and will assist in everyday duties such as communication with tourists and traffic regulation. The Serbian officers will be engaged in establishing a better and more intensified cooperation and in prevention of more complex forms of organised crimes such as human trafficking, slavery, organised prostitution and unlawful migrations or prevention of drug abuse and robbery, the head of Istria Police Department, Alen Klabot, said in Rovinj today.

This project has been conducted every year since 2006 when it was launched by the Croatian Interior Ministry.
