The Croatian Walking Festival is taking place for the fifth time in Gospić and Otočac in Lika County. The two-day event opened in Otočac on Saturday, with 1,200 participants from 22 countries at the start line.

"This is a large international family of walking lovers. We are in the calendar of the International March League, which means that we are one of the 29 walking routes in 27 countries. So it's no wonder that yesterday and today we hosted walkers from 22 countries, including Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and other European countries, as well as America, Australia, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan," the director of the Lika-Senj County Tourist Board, Ivan Radošević, said in Gospić on Sunday.

Among the walkers was Croatian journalist Marijan Vrkljan, who told Hina that this was his fourth walk organised by the Croatian Walking Festival. He described his walk through the Gacka river valley on Saturday as relaxing and well organised.

"I come here for recreation in nature and to meet friends once a year, to catch up while walking. This is a wonderful event and I would like it to encourage others to get to know rural Croatia," Vrkljan said.
