Croatian minister says sport has a unique power
Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac on Friday participated in the 16th Council of Europe Conference of Minister Responsible for Sport, which was focused on two topics: Europe's approach to the revision of the European Sports Charter and Human Rights in Sport.
"Investing in sport infrastructure, securing legitimate autonomous sport and creating conditions in which sport can contribute to the economy, public authorities and sport movements need to create conditions so that citizens can be more active in sport and physical activities," Minister Brnjac said when asked how various stakeholders can contribute to making sport activities more accessible, inclusive and safe."In the past four years Croatia has done a lot towards creating these conditions. The government has increased its allocation for sport by 100% and a great accent has been placed on investing in sport infrastructure and 56 sport facilities have been built or reconstructed. The main aim is to make sport accessible to every citizen throughout Croatia," underlined Brnjac.
Minister Brnjac underlined that cooperation between local and national bodies with local and national sports association was essential in order to create those conditions because only in that way can sport become accessible and an inclusive tool for a better, more successful and happier society.
Speaking of human rights in sport Brnjac said that we are all aware that this is one of the greatest threats to sport and that the media need to be included more in the fight against that threat. (Hina)
