Croatian and Austrian ministers discuss facilitating travel of tourists

As of 1 June, travellers arriving in Austria from Croatia are no longer required to quarantine, provided that they are tested, vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19, Croatian Tourism Minister Nikolina Brnjac said on Monday after talks with her Austrian counterpart.

In Vienna, Brnjac and Austrian Agriculture and Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger held a meeting on the conditions for entry into Austria.

Just like Germany, Austria will take into consideration data collected by the Robert Koch-Institut to assess the epidemiological situation in Croatia, the Croatian minister said. She told her host that in the recent weeks, the epidemiological situation in Croatia had improved markedly.

Croatia has done its best to be ready for the start of the tourist season. Improvement of the epidemiological situation gives rise to more optimism, Brnjac said, noting that in some counties, more than 60% of tourism workers have already got vaccinated.

She underscored the establishment of an increasing number of sites for testing tourists and co-funding of this procedure.

The two ministers also discussed the rollout of the planned Digital Green Certificate to be used across Europe forCOVID-19 restriction-free travel.

Brnjac added that agreement on bilateral validation of COVID travel passes was reached with Austria, too.

The e-visitor system shows that so far this year, Austrians have generated 171,000 overnight stays in Croatia, or 60% more than in the corresponding part of 2020.
