Croatia's eight national parks attract 2.26 million visitors in 2011

Eight Croatian national parks attracted 2.26 million visitors last year, of whom a majority, or 1.94 million, were foreigners, according to figures from the National Bureau of Statistics released this past week.

Compared with 2010 figures, the number of visitors to all eight national parks increased by 163,000, or 4.7%.

Plitvice Lakes National Park remained the most popular, drawing nearly 1.1 million visitors, followed by Krka National Park with 683,700. Brijuni attracted 156,500, Paklenica 118,300, Mljet 95,000, Kornati 92,000, Northern Velebit 19,400, and Risnjak 18,200 visitors.

Only Northern Velebit and Risnjak attracted more domestic visitors, almost twice as many as foreigners. All other parks were mainly visited by foreign tourists. (Hina)
