Croatia reports two-digit increases in tourist arrivals and overnight stays in Jan and Feb 2018
Some 443,000 tourists visited Croatia in the first two months of 2018 and generated 1.2 million overnight stays, which are increases of 12% and 11% respectively compared to the same period in 2017, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) said on Monday, citing data from the eVisitor and eCrew tourist registration systems. The data combines the number of tourists who stayed in commercial, non-commercial and nautical accommodation. Most of the arrivals and overnight stays were generated by foreign tourists. Their number increased by 15% to 267,000 and the number of overnight stays made by them rose by 15% to 755,000.
Increases were also registered in the number of domestic tourists. Their number increased by 7% and they generated 5% more overnight stays than in the first two months of 2017.The largest number of overnight stays was recorded in Zagreb (245,000), followed by Istria (233,000), Kvarner (165,000), Split-Dalmatia County (132,000), Dubrovnik-Neretva County (98,000), Zadar County (54,000), Sibenik-Knin County (30,000) and Lika-Senj County (18,000).
Some 95,000 tourists visited continental Croatia (excluding Zagreb), an increase of 10% over the first two months in 2017, while the number of overnight stays rose by 15% to 224,000.
The largest number of overnight stays among foreign tourists was generated by tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by those from Slovenia, Austria, Italy and Germany.
In February alone, 225,000 tourists visited Croatia, generating 584,000 overnight stays, which is an increase of 5% both in the number of arrivals and overnight stays. (Hina)
