Croatia promotes its tourist industry at BIT fair in Milan

Croatia's tourist industry is competitive and holds a good position on the Italian market, therefore good business results are expected from that market again this year, the director of the Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) Kristjan Stanicic said after attending the BIT travel exhibition in Milan.

"The Italian partners at the BIT fair have confirmed their interest and Croatia's good position on that market which is featured by somewhat later bookings which is why more intensive sales for Croatia are yet to occur. An additional advantage this year is the excellent timing of holidays in the pre-season when a lot of Italian tourists decide for shorter trips abroad and usually to geographically closer destinations," Stanicic said adding that he was certain that Croatia's tourism sector has recognised the opportunities existing on the Italian market.

He recalled that 1.2 million Italian tourists visited Croatia last year and generated 5.3 million bed nights which is 3% more than in 2017. Italian visitors rank sixth in Croatia in terms of tourist trade.

During the BIT fair, which was held on 10-12 February, Stanicic met the president of the FIAVET Italian association of travel agencies, Ivana Jelinic and the regional presidents of that association for Sicily, Veneto and Sardinia as well as executives of tour operators, airlines and shipping lines.
