The director of the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), Kristjan Staničić, said on Wednesday that safety and security is one of the most important criteria for selecting a destination for travel and holidays and that in that regard, Croatia is among the top destinations.

Croatia is perceived as a secure, sustainable, and high-quality destination, the HTZ director told a conference on safety and security in tourist destinations, held in Rijeka.

He also pointed out good cooperation between local tourist boards, the travel industry and the Croatian police and interior ministry.

Staničić recalled a campaign called "Safe Tourist Destination" which the interior ministry and the HTZ have been conducting for years. This initiative enables the arrival in Croatia of police officers from those countries from which the largest number of guests visit Croatia during the summer season.

Under that project, called "Safe Tourist Season", which was launched 19 years ago, police officers from Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Czechia, Slovakia as well as from China and South Korea, cooperate with their Croatian counterparts while patrolling in the streets of summer resorts.

Last summer, about 100 foreign police officers were in Croatia under this project.

Commenting on the Easter holidays, Staničić said that bookings and announcements were very good.
