Conference held on making Croatian tourism attractive to generations X, Y and Z
Members of the generations X,Y and Z are more mobile and are well informed travellers and tourist services should be adjusted to their needs, which include high quality services and adventure, it was said at a conference organised by the Rijeka-based Novi list daily in the resort of Opatija on Wednesday.
People born in the 1960s and 1970s belong to the generation X, the generation Y are those born from the 1980s to 1995, while the generation Z are those born after 1995.Addressing the conference, the Tourism Ministry's State Secretary Frano Matusic said that about 30% of guests visiting Croatia are below the age of 30, which indicates Croatia is clearly visible on Internet platforms.
However, a lot of work remains to be done to make Croatia more visible on the global scene. "We used to rank 32nd in terms of tourism competitiveness, and now we rank 27th, our goal being to climb to 20th place," Matusic said.
The state secretary also noted that smartphones were becoming the main tool for planning travel and experiences in tourism.
He believes that Croatia is addressing well challenges stemming from the digital era. In this context he said that the project Croatian Digital Tourism, which is being co-financed with European Union funds, would be completed by 2021, making the Croatian tourist trade stronger.
The head of the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), Kristjan Stanicic, informed the conference that the most sought-after destinations for younger generations are Novalja on the island of Pag, Split, Zagreb, Porec and Umag as well as some other cities and towns which are venues of popular festivals.
He said that the HTZ was conducting activities aimed at attracting more and more tourists from the generations X, Y and Z.
