The EUR 8 million Canopy by Hilton hotel opened in Zagreb on Monday, with Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli saying at the opening ceremony that EUR 1.05 billion would be invested in the Croatian tourist trade in 2019, following EUR 940 million worth of investments this year. This is the first hotel of the Canopy brand in continental Europe, and hotels of this brand will also be opened in London, Madrid and Paris. The interior design has been done by Croatian designers from the Franic and Sekoranja Studio and Croatian furniture manufacturers.

The hotel, located in the city centre, has 151 rooms, a restaurant and a bar, a retreat room, and other facilities.

This is the second hotel from the Hilton chain in Zagreb, after DoubleTree, said the executive director of the Hilton group for southern Europe, Alan Mantin.

Martin said that Croatia was a very important market to Hilton and that this chain planned to open a Garden Inn next year.

Minister Cappelli said that next year a total of EUR 1.05 billion would be invested in the tourism sector, of which amount 626 million would be invested by companies and 425 million would come from local government.

The largest amount of investment is planned in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (EUR 203 million) and Split-Dalmatia County (EUR 197 million). Istria County expects EUR 175 million in investments, while the interior of Croatia and the capital city plan investments at EUR 355 million. (Hina)
