BBC to televise feature on Rijeka, European Capital of Culture 2020
BBC Getaways will televise a special feature at the end of January on the Kvarner region in the northern Adriatic describing the historical and cultural heritage and cuisine of Rijeka, Opatija and the island of Krk ahead of the official opening of the programme for Rijeka - the European Capital of Culture 2020, the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) has informed.
HTZ's London office arranged for BBC Getaways show, which features the most attractive tourist destinations around the world, to be televised from Croatia.The episode about the Kvarner region will be televised ahead of the official opening of the Rijeka, European Cultural Capital 2020 (ECC 020) programme on January 30 on BBC 1 progamme and on February 3 on BBC 2 as well as on BBC iPlayer platform which has 17 million British viewers and 426 million viewers from around the world.
"Rijeka ECC 2020 is our most important cultural event this year and we are using it to additional promote Croatia on the important British market," HTZ Director Kristjan Stanicic said.
He is convinced that numerous marketing activities among Brits will result with additional promotion of Croatia as a favourable tourist destination with a variety of offers.
HTZ explained that British TV hosts, Jennifer Reoch and Joe Lindsay, will inform viewers of destinations in the Kvarner areas such as Opatija and its history of the "the grande dame' of Croatian tourism," the BBC described Opatija on its web site.
Rijeka will be particularly promoted as a city break destination due to its potential and unconventional attractions which are ideal for British tourists.
I am fascinated with Rijeka and I believe that Brits are yet to discover it. It will undoubtedly become a hit destination with its intriguing past which is not that known in Great Britain. I'm fascinated to have discovered that Rijeka is the home of the torpedo and I found about about the connection between the city and George Von Trapp who inspired the Sound of Music film and so on, Lindsay said.
