Travel from Austria to Croatia has intensified in the past few days and there are currently over 1,500 Austrian tourists in the country, with hoteliers recording great interest from Austrians for holidays in Croatia, Veljko Ostojic, head of the Croatian Tourism Association (HUT), said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Austria abolished all epidemiological measures restricting the travel of Austrian citizens to neighbouring countries. As has been announced, Croatia, together with some other countries that do not share a border with Austria, should be in line for such relaxation next week, Ostojic said.

Adding that it was a well-known fact that Croatia regularly has a significant number of holiday-makers from Austria, and considering the "excellent epidemiological situation" in Croatia, Ostojic said that he was convinced that Austria would follow recommendations by the European Commission to enable travel to countries with a similar epidemiological situation.

He said that the great interest Croatian tourism recorded daily in calls and bookings made by Austrian tourists was the best proof how much Austrians wanted to come to Croatia, and HUT hopes that authorities would, in addition to EU's recommendations, also listen to their citizens' wishes.

"Croatia has one of the best epidemiological situations in Europe, world media rank it among the safest travel destinations, tourism workers have raised their services to the highest level and we welcome our guest completely ready," Ostojic said, underscoring that Austria was among the markets where Croatia had the highest tourism revenue. (Hina/FaH)
