Nominations open for UNWTO Ulysses Awards

Nominations are officially open for the 2011 UNWTO Ulysses Awards. The Awards seek to recognize highly innovative tourism projects which have contributed to tourism policy, governance, and other areas, such as the environment, socio-economic development and new technologies. The UNWTO Ulysses Awards reward initiatives and projects undertaken by public tourism institutions, tourism enterprises and non-profit institutions that have made a significant contribution to the advancement of tourism through innovation, in line with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The UNWTO Ulysses Awards are aligned with the objectives of the UNWTO Knowledge Network, a worldwide community of innovation supporting knowledge management initiatives in tourism.

Croatia, Spain to promote tourism togetherCroatia and Spain could cooperate in tourism promotion on remote markets as early as next year, with details to be defined by a joint task force at a meeting in Zagreb, Croatian Tourism Minister Damir Bajs and the Spanish state secretary for tourism, Joan Mesquida Ferrando, told Croatian reporters after talks in Madrid on Tuesday. Ferrando said tourism was a very important sector for both countries, adding that apart from cooperation in tourism promotion, Croatia and Spain would also define possibilities of cooperation in the promotion of quality in tourism. Bajs said the cooperation in distant markets could be part of Spain's such promotion with Portugal, Italy and France, adding that Slovenia could also become part of the project.

Promotion of Croatian tourism in Tokyo and BrusselsThe Croatian Tourism Board (HTZ) will present Croatian tourism services in Tokyo and Brussels this week. Croatian Tourism Day will be held in Tokyo on February 2 as part of which the third anniversary of opening of the HTZ office in the Japanese capital will be marked. Croatia aims to enhance hunting tourism, says ministerThe tourism ministry will continue supporting the development of hunting sector so that hunting tourism can assume a more prominent role in the Croatian travel industry, Tourism Minister Damir Bajs said on Saturday during his visit to the municipality of Sandrovac, northern Croatia. Bajs spoke about the importance of developing niche tourism markets such as adventure tourism, mountain climbing tourism, fishing and hunting tourism, according to a press release issued by his ministry.  Last year, 6,000 foreign hunters visited Croatia, although in the past, there used to be up to 30,000 foreign hunters on tour of Croatia annually. 22.01.2011. | Page
