Huffington Post lists '13 reasons why you're winning at life if you're in Croatia'

The US Huffington Post has praised and recommended Croatia in its Travel section several times this year, more than other foreign media, and did so again this week in an article headlined "13 Reasons Why You're Winning At Life If You're In Croatia". Author Kate Auletta presents 13 Croatian destinations which should be visited to feel "winning at life," saying Croatia is "totally winning thanks to its stunning landscape, chic port towns, awe-inspiring national parks and party isles." The article begins by recommending the island of Vis for its wine, seafood and nature; Krk island for its "varied" landscape, "pristine" beaches and towns "full of activities"; and Hvar, "the sunniest of all the islands and also one of the most luxurious (think super yachts and high-end hotels)". Dubrovnik follows with its "immense history, great food and beautiful scenery" and "the delightful gardens of Trsteno"; Plitvice Lakes National Park, described as "stunning" but "swimming in these insanely beautiful waters is not allowed"; Istria, "the new Tuscany" with hilltop villages, seaside towns and "delicious Italian-ish food"; and Rovinj, the "Istrian coastal fishing town you simply can't miss".

Minister says flood consequences for tourism sector minimal

Croatian Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said on Saturday that consequences of floods for tourism will be minimal and that once the damage is known, his ministry and the National Tourism Board would rebuild all tourist public infrastructure so that tourism could continue in the flooded regions as soon as possible. "The consequences for tourism are minimal. The government has taken aid measures in the flooded regions and apart from a symbolic financial donation, the Tourism Ministry and the National Tourism Board decided to reconstruct all tourist public infrastructure to enable tourist activities to resume in that region as soon as possible," Lorencin said. Lorencin expressed optimism about the coming tourist season.

Minister happy with "Red Bull Air Race" in Rovinj ushering in tourist season

Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin said on Saturday that the organisation of "Red Bull Air Race" in Rovinj over this weekend was one of the best ways to usher in this year's tourist season in Croatia. The world's fastest motorsport series is making a first-ever stop in Croatia, with its events in the Istrian coastal town of Rovinj on 12-13 April. The Red Bull Air Race World Championship features the world's best race pilots in a pure motorsport competition that combines speed, precision and skill. Using the fastest, most agile and lightweight racing planes, pilots navigate a low-level aerial track made up of air-filled pylons 25 metres high. The Red Bull Air Race 2014 World Championship has recently announced it will add a third stop in Europe with a race in the enchanted Croatian town of Rovinj and thus extend the world's fastest motorsport series to a total of eight stops in seven countries on three continents. The organisers say the Rovinj location guarantees only the best views for spectators.

Coastal county considers introducing scuttling to expand tourist services

The Institute of Physical Planning of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County last Tuesday presented a study on possibilities of introducing scuttling as a special tourism service intended to prolong the peak tourist season. Scuttling is a deliberate sinking of vessels which are made tourist attractions that way. For the time being, there is no official position on scuttling or surveys on locations where vessels could be scuttled without any harm. Scuttling vessels is normally not associated with recreation, so the Institute is looking into where and how it could be done. Deliberately sunk vessels must be outside navigation routes and they must be environmentally harmless and safe for divers, it was said at the presentation.
