Austrians prefer to go on holiday to CroatiaThis year again Croatia is the number one destination in the world for Austrians, according to the Austrian Automobile, Motorcycle and Touring Club, the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) reported on Thursday. According to a survey taken in spring 2018, which included more than 800 respondents, Croatia was the number one tourist destination for Austrians. Italy ranks 2nd, while Spain was the third choice. A total of 18% of Austrians prefer to holiday in their own country. 21.06.2018. | News

Tourism ministry wants to increase tourist tax in 2019 by 25%The Tourism Ministry has proposed introducing, as of 2019, a higher tourist tax in the peek season, and under the proposal, the tax would be raised from HRK 8 to HRK 10 per person per night. Under the ministry's proposal, the tourist tax should go up 25% in all accommodation units except camping sites, from HRK 8 to HRK 10 per person per night. Workforce shortage can be solved only with long term immigration policy, experts sayCroatia's tourism and all other industries increasingly depend on foreign labour, which is why the government last week doubled the quota of 4,660 foreign workers, but the problem cannot be resolved without complex measures regulating the long term immigration policy, experts believe. The Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) estimates that between 15,000 and 20,000 workers will be needed in tourism this summer. According to the Croatian Employment Service, the most sought after workers in the first four months of the year were in accommodation, food preparation and serving, retail and wholesale. 17.06.2018. | News

Partnership agreement inked by Bayern football club and Istria tourism boardThe Istria County tourism board and the Bayern Munich football club have recently signed an agreement on eight projects for mutual promotions. According to the agreement, the Istrian tourism board will have the right to use three Bayern players to promote Istria's tourism and Istria will be advertised on the football club's site. HUP, HGK welcome gov't decision to increase quotas for hiring foreignersThe Croatian Employers Association (HUP) and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) on Thursday welcomed the government's decision to increase this year's quotas for the seasonal employment of foreigners, notably considering the demand for workers in the sectors of tourism, agriculture and construction, but they noted that the quota system and the education system had to be changed to suit labour market needs better. Earlier in the day the government endorsed a decision to increase the quotas for the seasonal employment of foreigners to 35,500. 07.06.2018. | News
