Croatian Culture Minister Andrea Zlatar Violic and Azerbaijani Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev Mursal signed in Dubrovnik on Thursday a programme for cultural cooperation between the two countries.
The programme envisages support to all forms of cooperation in the mutual interest based on the exchange of cultural values and promotion of direct cooperation between institutions, associations and professional organisations, as well as on the exchange of art and culture experts.
The Azerbaijani minister said after the signing ceremony that the programme referred to cooperation in 2014, 2015 and 2016. It heralds future cooperation in areas not covered by the programme, Garayev said, adding that he was confident that the cooperation would grow closer and broader.
Welcoming her guest, Minister Zlatar Violic said the programme was being signed because there was potential for good cooperation, both in the area of cultural heritage and in contemporary art.
The cultural cooperation programme will enable cooperation between musical and concert institutions and the exchange of visits by smaller ensembles and artists in the field of performing arts, including an exchange of visits by two ensembles.
Under the programme, the Azerbaijani State Chamber Orchestra "Gara Garayev" and the Azerbaijani State Pantomime Theatre will stage performances in Croatia, while the Croatian chamber orchestra The Zagreb Soloists and the Rijeka City Puppet Theatre will perform in Azerbaijan.
The programme also envisages promotion of direct cooperation between galleries and museums and support in the organisation of exhibitions of visual arts, design and photography. Three Croatian exhibitions will be staged in Azerbaijan - an exhibition of Croatian monuments on UNESCO's list of protected world heritage, an exhibition of intangible cultural heritage on UNESCO's lists, and an exhibition of contemporary design, entitled "In a Nutshell".
Croatian audiences will have an opportunity to visit an exhibition of photographs of Azerbaijan, an exhibition of contemporary Azerbaijani art and an exhibition of Azerbaijani carpets, traditional trades and old musical instruments.
The programme provides for joint participation in festivals and meetings, to be directly arranged by their organisers, and it promotes direct cooperation between institutions in charge of protection and research of cultural heritage, direct cooperation between writers and translators, libraries and library associations, and publishers.
The programme for cultural cooperation between the Croatian and Azerbaijani culture ministries in 2014, 2015 and 2016 was signed in line with a cultural cooperation agreement signed by the two governments in June 2005.
