Croatia becomes new member of UNWTO Executive Council

Croatia has been elected a new member of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) for the next four years at the organisation's plenary meeting that is taking place in Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Croatian Ministry of Tourism announced in a statement on Thursday.

Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin was quoted as saying that this was yet another recognition of Croatia for its engagement within the World Tourism Organisation.

"We are grateful for this opportunity and I am certain that in this way too we will contribute to the positive perception of Croatia worldwide as an attractive tourist destination," said Lorencin, who had recently been appointed Vice-President of the UNWTO General Assembly as representative of the Europe region.

UNWTO has 156 member states, and Croatia joined the organisation in 1993. (Hina)
