Tourism and Sports Minister Nikolina Brnjac has passed a decision on the allocation of funding for the implementation of programmes of public needs in sports by umbrella sports associations from the 2024 state budget in the amount of €52,119,098.
The decision concerns the programmes of public needs in sports of the Croatian Olympic Committee, the Croatian Paralympic Committee, the Croatian Deaf Sports Association, the Croatian Academic Sports Association and the Croatian School Sports Association.
This year again we have set aside a record amount of funding for public needs in sports, including for our umbrella sports associations, whose allocation nearly tripled compared with 2016, when it was about €18 million. This is an Olympic and Paralympic year, and we want all our sportspeople to have the optimal conditions for preparations and for competing in Paris, as well as in all other competitions, Minister Brnjac said in a statement on Tuesday, adding that over €111 million had been earmarked for sports in 2024.
Through the funding for umbrella sports associations, more than 200,000 sportspeople and about 150,000 students and pupils are supported and encouraged to do sports, the statement said.
