Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sport Nikolina Brnjac met on Friday with Gao Zhidan, China's Director of the State General Administration of Sport and President of the Chinese Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport said in a press release.
China and Croatia have maintained good bilateral relations in sport since 1993, when the two governments signed an agreement on cooperation in culture and education, including sport. The cooperation was further improved by signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in sport in 2019.
Brnjac presented the important steps the government had taken to improve the sports system in Croatia. She said they had discussed ways of further improving the otherwise very good bilateral cooperation and methods of work within the Initiative for Cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC).
"China is highly successful in many sports, regularly winning Olympic and world medals. We are pleased to have an opportunity to exchange best practice and knowledge with China in order to mutually improve our respective sports systems," Brnjac said.
Gao said that since China and Croatia established diplomatic relations 31 years ago, the two countries' sporting associations have maintained a deep friendship and achieved fruitful results as part of their cooperation.
China is looking forward to collaborating with Croatia in actively promoting work related to the China-CEEC Sports Coordination Mechanism based on high-level cooperation and using this as a platform to further deepen practical cooperation in various sports, promote common development, and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, Geo said.
Let us take full advantage of the unique role of sport in promoting relations among people, he concluded.
